Metarepresentation, trust, and “unleashed expression”.Leda Berio, Albert Newen & Richard Moore - 2023 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 46:e4.
Heintz & Scott-Phillips's account of human expression leaves a number of central issues unclear – not least, whether the lack of expression in nonhuman species is attributable to their lack of the relevant metarepresentational abilities, an absence of trust, or a consequence of other factors. In place of their view, we propose a gradualistic account of the origins of human expression.

Said, Stanley Kurtz, Barbara Ehrenreich, Jerry L. Walls, Jerry Weinberger, Leon Kass, Jane Smiley, Janet C. Gornick, Jean Bethke Elshtain, Thomas Pogge, Isabel V. Journal response time: A case for multiple submission.Albert Somit & Steven A. Peterson - 1996 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 19 (3):533-534.
Peer review poses many challenges for journals. A downside of high rejection rates and sometimes delayed responses in publication decision by journals is a long time period between original submission of a manuscript and its ultimate acceptance and publication. One way of accelerating the process which might be worth considering is multiple submission. This commentary addresses that issue.

    Can stochastic physics be a complete theory of nature?Steven M. Moore - 1979 - Foundations of Physics 9 (3-4):237-259.
The prospects for a complete stochastic theory of microscopic phenomena are considered. The two traditional schools of stochastic physics, the diffusion process school and the zero-point electromagnetic field school, are reviewed. A completely relativistic theory, stochastic field theory, is proposed as an extension of the ideas of these two schools. Within the context of stochastic field theory we present the following new results: an elementary stochastization scheme which produces the zero-point electromagnetic field; a physical interpretation of the mathematical methods developed (...)

This is a valuable book, jam-packed with learning and insight, cosmopolitan in scope, timely yet classically anchored. An achievement of intellectual beauty. This is how I like to see philosophy conducted. Robert Ginsberg Director, The International Center for the Arts, Humanities, and Value Inquiry. This book contains fifteen essays all seeking to regain the original meaning of philosophy as the love of wisdom. Mythos and Logos are two essential aspects of a quest that began with the ancient Greeks. As concepts (...)

PRiME: Integrating professional responsibility into the engineering curriculum. [REVIEW]Christy Moore, Hillary Hart, D’Arcy Randall & Steven P. Nichols - 2006 - Science and Engineering Ethics 12 (2):273-289.
Engineering educators have long discussed the need to teach professional responsibility and the social context of engineering without adding to overcrowded curricula. One difficulty we face is the lack of appropriate teaching materials that can fit into existing courses. The PRiME (Professional Responsibility Modules for Engineering) Project (http://www.engr.utexas.edu/ethics/primeModules.cfm) described in this paper was initiated at the University of Texas, Austin to provide web-based modules that could be integrated into any undergraduate engineering class. Using HPL (How People Learn) theory, PRiME developed (...)

  27. Seven insights from Albert Camus’s Plague about epidemics, public health and morality.Steven R. Kraaijeveld - forthcoming - Journal of Public Health.
For Albert Camus, plague was both a fact of life and a powerful metaphor for the human condition. Camus engaged most explicitly and extensively with the subject of plague in his 1947 novel, The Plague (La peste), which chronicles an outbreak of what is presumably cholera in the French-Algerian city of Oran. I often thought of this novel—and what it might teach us—during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In this article, I discuss seven important insights from The Plague about epidemics, (...)

This book's importance is derived from three sources: careful conceptualization of teacher induction from historical, methodological, and international perspectives; systematic reviews of research literature relevant to various aspects of teacher induction including its social, cultural, and political contexts, program components and forms, and the range of its effects; substantial empirical studies on the important issues of teacher induction with different kinds of methodologies that exemplify future directions and approaches to the research in teacher induction.

The Direction of Science Versus String Theory, or, Were Albert Einstein's Guidelines for the Next Scientific Revolution Wrong?Christopher Portosa Stevens - 2022 - International Journal of Žižek Studies 16 (1).
There are scientists that have speculated that, since science involves abstraction, generalizations across facts, and the generalization of causes and theories across empirical phenomena, the direction of science is to increasingly unify forces and causes until there is a single general theory unifying all of the forces of nature. The most prominent contemporary example of this attempt to unify all of the forces of nature in a single theory is string theory or superstring theory. String theorists have attempted to emulate (...)

Social expectations guide people's evaluations of others’ behaviors, but the origins of these expectations remain unclear. It is traditionally thought that people's expectations depend on their past observations of others’ behavior, and people harshly judge atypical behavior. Here, we considered that social expectations are also influenced by a drive for reciprocity, and people evaluate others’ actions by reflecting on their own decisions. To compare these views, we performed four studies. Study 1 used an Ultimatum Game task where participants alternated Responder (...)

This essay discusses Nock’s theory of American education and finds that certain of these assumptions stand greatly in need of the support of evidence.

This paper explores Albert Bandura's concept of moral disengagement in the context of organizational corruption. First, the construct of moral disengagement is defined and elaborated. Moral disengagement is then hypothesized to play a role in the initiation of corruption by both easing and expediting individual unethical decision-making that advances organizational interests. It is hypothesized to be a factor in the facilitation of organizational corruption through dampening individuals’ awareness of the ethical content of the decisions they make. Finally, it is (...)
